December 2008
Today my brain belongs to tech writing. Where would I be without Scrivener, I ask you? The express train to Headachetown, that’s where.
I got the Taiko Drum Master controller to control MIDI. Dope. What it lacks in pressure sensitivity, it makes up for in visceral fun.
The NY Times’ year in pictures includes the expected Iraq, hurricanes, Obama, and… a ballerina? Sure, NYT, 2008 was all about the ballet.
Also, NY Times, it’s bad enough to give column inches to Stanley Fish’s tale of changing phone service at his country house.
And then the column is mostly about his correcting the customer service rep’s grammar. Wonder why my age cohort doesn’t read you anymore?
Things I learned from D&D: intelligence, wisdom, and charisma are independent variables, and good-evil is orthogonal to lawful-chaotic.
Revival Revival show tonight at Bar Reis. Lots of new tunes tonight, hopefully this time the visuals will work too.
Leftover Christmas dim sum. Leftover Christmas dim sum. Leftover Christmas dim sum. Leftover Christmas dim sum!
I gotta hand it to you, Charmin, branded public bathrooms in Times Square was a great idea, especially the escalators and insane murals.
By which I mean, branded bathrooms in Times Square were a great idea. Twitter is not a copyeditor’s medium.
I had some very Jewish Christmas dim sum in Chinatown with Anna and friends and am feeling the NYC love.
Looking forward to Anna’s birthday dinner at A Bistro in Fort Greene. I can taste the spicy Senegalese mussels and fried chicken. [drool]
Nothing fills me with seasonal cheer like having my grammar corrected on Facebook.
Doing my tech writing job has me reading a lot of wikipedia articles on computer banalities like MS Word.
I’ve never read a wikipedia article on a Microsoft product. I’m enjoying the tension between the marketing literature and the criticism.
I need to calm down. Too much anxiety in the air and in my brain. I need to go watch some Barack Obama speeches or something.
It isn’t just Rock Band and Guitar Hero that convey the flavor of actual music-making; it’s all video games.
Self-promotional strategy of the week is to give away lots of cool graphics licensed creative commons with my web address embedded in them.
Eating marshmallows for breakfast.
The cat looked like he wanted to be picked up, but he made his true feelings known by punching me in the face.
New York, you continue to broaden my horizons with the extreme neurodiversity of your inhabitants.
Hurray for Delicious bulk tag editing! I just deleted a hundred moldy bookmarks and am feeling more ready to have some new thoughts.
Today the cable is doing that thing where it only shows one channel, and that channel is: Lifetime. So, yeah. I do really like Wifeswap.
Desperate Housewives, on the other hand, makes Sex & The City look like Shakespeare.
